Though the industrialization of our small town has been distressing in many ways—from eminent domain issues to several local businesses going under to the general mall look and feel that has quickly, and sadly, developed—I must admit that I have enjoyed a couple of the new places that have popped up that I’d previously never experienced. One such place is Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which has been voted as the best burger place for families, the Willie Wonka of Burgercraft, and plenty of other honorary titles.
I am dubbing the casual eatery as the Second Best Place for a Burger in Town. I still have yet to find a burger that tops our favorite, Bob’s Drive-In! But Five Guys does come close. They taste fresh and juicy, and you can get any number of free toppings added to your burger. The general ketchup, mustard, mayo, and pickles are available—but so are green peppers, mushrooms, A-1 sauce, barbecue sauce, hot sauce, tomatoes, and more. These toppings—all save cheese and bacon—are all free.
If you don’t like burgers, there are also hotdogs, grilled cheese, and veggie sandwiches. I can’t vouch for any of these since I didn’t try any, but they sound pretty good. The restaurant has two types of fries: Cajun and regular. Both are very good, and are similar to Penn Station’s in how they are served and dressed.
Each day the source of the potatoes are listed on the wall, and fresh bags of potatoes are used in the actual dining area as a decoration. The area itself is very open and cafeteria-like, which I’m not much of a fan of, but it’s very family-friendly. Quotes regarding the popularity of the establishment are posted along all of the walls. The restaurant had a wide range of drinks available, too, which I liked, and you also get free peanuts to enjoy while you eat. The staff was very friendly and helpful, too, offering to refill drinks and make suggestions regarding the menu. You do order at the counter, per regular fast food restaurants.
My husband said he could see this place as one of his favorites, and I think most people who enjoy burgers would, too. I am thinking of getting my dad a gift card to eat there for his birthday next month, and I am sure any burger folks on your holiday list would love one next weekend, too.
